My research on Pauline Boty (see below) has plunged me into the depths of sadness.

Not only did she die of cancer aged 28 hardly knowing her daughter, but her husband Clive Goodwin died 11 years later in equally tragic circumstances. He had been meeting with Warren Beatty in a Los Angeles hotel (to discuss the forthcoming film ‘Reds’) when he suffered a stroke. Hotel staff and cops thought he was drunk and threw him in a cell, where he died. (That was 1977).

Their daughter Boty Goodwin went to live with the poet Adrian Mitchell (look for ‘Tell Me Lies about Vietnam’ on youtube). When Boty died, he wrote this heart-rending poem, that I can’t read without going misty-eyed. http://www.poetryinternationalweb.net/pi/site/poem/item/13609
